We Look After Your Oral Health!

Hygiene and Preventative Treatment are very important for the health of your teeth and gums. Did you know that you can keep your teeth and gums healthy by regularly brushing, flossing, and visiting our North Calgary Dental Clinic for regular dental hygiene appointments?

At Northern Hills Dental, we recommend dental hygiene appointments approximately every 6 months for most clients, but more frequently for those with gum disease.

Scaling as a Preventative Treatment

Periodontal Teeth Scaling is a major part of every hygiene appointment and allows our hygienists to reduce the plaque, tartar (calculus) and bacteria that may be residing on your teeth. At Northern Hills Dental, we employ two methods of scaling on your teeth, one of which is a traditional hand scaling tool, and the other requires using an ultrasonic water scaling device. The method used depends on your unique hygiene circumstances.

Our hygienists want to ensure that your teeth remain free of any build-up, and look healthy and beautiful all year round!

Oral Cancer Detection

Early detection of Oral Cancer is vitally important in combating the disease. That is why we provide a complete oral cancer screening during each hygiene and scaling appointment.

Our Dental Hygienists Will...

  • Offer a comprehensive prevention program based on your own needs
  • Communicate closely to your dentist their findings
  • Explain all treatment plans carefully, and the impact of your dental health on your general health
  • Offer dietary advice that can benefit your dental health
  • Offer topical anesthetic for patients with sensitive gums and teeth
  • Treat periodontal (gum) disease using deep scaling and root planing
  • Monitor your gums’ overall health at your regular appointments
  • Provide teeth whitening
  • Discuss the use of our preferred dental hygiene products: floss, toothpaste, electric toothbrushes, water picks, medicated toothpaste, etc.

Developing Good Oral Hygiene Habits

Brushing with fluoride toothpaste is recommended at least twice a day to remove plaque and the remnants of food and drink from our teeth and gums. Flossing once a day is an essential practice to avoid gum disease and preventing tooth decay

Practicing the above oral hygiene habits are great ways to maintain proper oral health. But good habits alone will not remove all the plaque that builds up over time. This is why it is necessary to see your dentist and dental hygienist regularly to remove the plaque in order to effectively lower your risk of toothaches, cavities, periodontal disease, or even the loss of all your teeth. Our aim is to keep you smiling!
